Bloggers Unite Against Jack Thompson

After reading this article on MSNBC and thinking about how much of an idiot Jack Thompson is I think something should be done about it. Bloggers should take this man on and challenge his knee jerk reactions that video games cause all problems in society. This man is an attention whore who should be put in his place.

If you are down with this idea hit me up in an email I will let you know how we can take a jab at this guy.

(Disclaimer so Jack Thompson doesn't sue me: Not a physical jab)

Foxnews does something right?

Ok so Foxnews is typically known for jumping the gun, and for making some pretty senseless reporting.  This morning I noticed Foxnews did not have any of the pictures of the shooter from the Virgina Tech shooting.  I typically do not just read one news network (I'm a news junkie) instead reading all that can be fit into the day, so checking CNN they had the video of his incoherent rant posted as their main article.  It seems all the other networks are starting to follow the lead of Foxnews (I can't believe I just said that) or had so many complaints they pulled it.  Now CNN is running a list of all the different victims and their lives, and this is the way it should be. All this guy wanted was attention, and that is why he sent the video to NBC in the first place.  The worst thing that could have happened in his mind is for no one to see these videos or remember his name.  It shouldn't be his name you remember, but it should be the victims of his senseless crime.

So I have to give props to Foxnews (I can't believe I that as well) for not giving this guy the attention he does not deserve for being a coward and preying on innocent and helpless victims.

20 Years of Simpsons

It was 20 years ago today when The Simpsons made their first tv appearance on the Tracy Ullman show.  I don't remember this episode personally and did not actually catch much of them until they were aired on broadcast tv.  The first episode I ever saw was the Roasting on an Open Fire episode when they found Santa's Little Helper at the track, actually remember watching it air for the first time in 1989.  The Simpsons really took of the next year I remember everyone wearing the shirts "I'm Bart Simpson who the hell are you?" and Bartman.

When the movie shows this summer I'm afraid they might have wore out their welcome.  Oh well it was a great run.

Stop the bloatware

Recently I switched to a Mac, but I do support for a small lab where everyone besides me and one other uses Windows.  Almost everything we buy is from Dell except for a few Lenovo laptops.  My request for Dell and actually any other pc manufacturer is to offer clean Windows installs as an option for all users (not just business but include home.)  I spent 2 hours just cleaning everything off of a new Dell Dimension the other day for a family member.  I would almost guarantee that most people would use this option, and could possibly increase purchases with an option like this.

It looks like others have this same idea so I would encourage everyone to promote this at Ideastorm.

Google to rule the world in 2019

Google recently took partial ownership of the company behind the Maxthon Browser. Yesterday after playing with the Google 411 service I realized something. Google is starting to remind me more of how companies are portrayed in the movie Idiocracy.

I can see it now the year is 2019 I just receive my Google DVR, provided to me from Google/AT&T communications. The service is free, but I have constant scrolling ads at the bottom of the screen that I can view within the picture if I find them to be interesting. So I choose to purchase something from the GHSN, and it is automatically charged to my Gcard (never leave home without it). All banking is done centrally, and without fees the only drawback is my financial information is used to serve me proper ads on what I can afford. Everything is tied into this system, and I can not escape ads yet all my services are free.

This is where I feel Google is going.

Digg blocked? Google reader is here to help

So Digg has been blocked in my office now for the past week or so, and I feel like I might be missing out on something. So I just realized one easy way around this is to use Google Reader. All you have to do is subscribe to the sections you want to read, or create a feed for a search.

So if your employer is blocking Digg and not blocking Google Reader this is a good way to keep up with the top stories. The downside is that you can not comment, read comments, or submit stories. If all you are doing is reading though this works great.

[Update]
Doh, the feeds from Digg only link to digg.com. They should put the link to the actual article in the feed.
